The 2010 Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree (BSJ) was held at Fort A.P. Hill, VA from July 26, 2010 through August 4, 2010. This event coincided with the 100th Anniversary of Scouting, and the Water Environment Federation (WEF) sponsored an exhibit as part of the Jamboree’s Conservation Trail for the fourth time. The conservation area was and has always been one of the highlights with past participation by approximately 25,000 Scouts and Scout leaders. In 2005, our exhibit educated more than 15,000 Scouts and Scout Leaders about watersheds, wastewater treatment and infrastructure, prevention of sewer overflows due to oil and grease clogs, and biosolids. At the 2010 Jamboree, water quality testing was the focal event at the exhibit, which consisted of five interactive stations where WEF volunteers briefly explained the activity. There was also watershed mapping and the ever popular activity where scouts crawl through actual pipes that lead them to the water quality testing area inside of the exhibit tent. WEF volunteers staffed the exhibit daily and contributed to a BSJ blog throughout Jamboree week.
