AURANGABAD : The Aurangabad City Water Utility Company Limited (ACWUCL) has recently filed a contempt petition highlighting the current situation of the project following the failure of the principal secretary of state urban development department to abide by the order of the Aurangabad Bench of Bombay High Court .

The approval of the PPP for the water distribution project in Aurangabad has been withheld by the state government despite an order by the Aurangabad Bench of Bombay High Court on February 18, 2014 directing the state government to take decision as expeditiously as possible and in case on or before March 18, 2014 .

The company alleged that the delay in the speedy implementation of the project is politically driven.

"The reason is to prevent credit for the project being attributed to Shiv Sena -led ruling municipal body in Aurangabad in the face of the upcoming elections," the company said.

The civic body had handed over the responsibility to the ACWUCL, a special purpose vehicle (SVP) created for supplying water in the city, on January 1, 2013 but the company had taken a back step within eight days of operations. Since then the project has been put on hold.
