Specialist, Conferences and Events Management

The Conferences and Events Management specialist has responsibility for day-to-day operations and administrative duties including communication, data entry, and web site updates. Additional responsibilities include handling arrangements for summits, forums, and small meetings; managing the conference office during WEF’s annual meeting; functioning as the liaison with the organization's travel agency; and managing various cyclical events. Also this individual will have duties related to budget development and management, contract negotiation, and registration process management.

Qualified applicants will need more than 3 years of related experience; membership association meetings experience; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong attention to detail and accuracy; excellent computer skills; and the ability to effectively multi-task.

Manager, Biosolids Programs

A new staff position at WEF to manage biosolids technical and communications initiatives!  This person develops, executes, and supports WEF biosolids technical activities to help promote biosolids beneficial use, and raise public awareness of the value of biosolids. Provides professional research and writing support for biosolids technical and regulatory documents, as well as media content, as needed. Works closely with WEF communications staff and contractors. Drafts original written pieces on biosolids issues for web, print, and social media and acts as primary liaison for WEF’s biosolids expert groups.

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or sciences with solid written and oral communications skills; or a bachelor’s degree in communications or related field with specific experience in the biosolids area. Need five years of relevant experience; ability to work with and lead volunteer groups and activities; and the presence to serve comfortably as a WEF representative.

Director of Public Outreach and Communications

WEF is seeking an experienced public outreach and communications professional to lead an expansion of our efforts to educate the public about the value of water and the contributions of water professionals to public health, the environment, and community vitality. This is a newly created position designed to help meet WEF’s growing communications needs. The selected candidate will work with WEF volunteer leaders, stakeholders and staff to develop a comprehensive public outreach and communications plan that affirms and raises WEF’s profile as an unbiased source of information for journalists and public policy makers; and positions WEF as an authoritative public health and environmental voice. The Director of Public Communications and Outreach will serve as primary WEF spokesperson with the media, and will oversee the creation of innovative resources and materials, as well as high-impact speeches and presentations for WEF leadership and staff.

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field (advanced degree preferred); at least ten years’ experience in a similar role, preferably with a public utility, water service provider, or educational association; excellent overall communication skills; experience developing multi-faceted educational programs for specific audiences including students, an understanding of public health and environmental issues; and experience as a media spokesperson.

Marketing Manager

Join the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and manage the creative development of marketing campaigns to include conceptualizing, writing, editing and distributing printed materials and digital content used for various target audiences. Responsibilities include coordinating activities related to the timely execution of marketing plans and projects; creating integrated marketing plans to support annual conference and specialty conferences; assisting with communications efforts and distribution channels with emphasis on digital tools, social media, website information updates and leading market research efforts; and working cross-functionally with business teams to ensure campaign workflow from inception to completion. 

Requirements for the position include a Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communications or Marketing or related field of 3 -5+ years of experience; strong project manager, writing, editing, proofreading; and the ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-driven environment on many projects simultaneously. WEF is also looking for candidates with knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media; some experience with CMS databases, WordPress, or Adobe Creative Suite; and solid project management skills.

Director of Finance

WEF is searching for a director of finance and this new position will assume many of the responsibilities of the current CFO. Those responsibilities include leading the organization’s financial management operations; maintaining and managing compliance with internal policies and external requirements and guidelines; overseeing the annual audit and tax returns; supervising the organization’s investment of funds; coordinating the annual budget process; and overseeing all bank and associated accounts. There are 7 additional employees working in Finance covering A/P, A/R, and payroll.

Requirements for applicants include a bachelor’s degree and CPA, 10 years of progressively responsible experience (including supervisory), advanced Microsoft Suite knowledge, not for profit accounting and federal and state tax knowledge, and grants experience.
