Staff Accountant
Alexandria, Va.

The Water Environment Federation, a non-profit that works to support clean and safe water worldwide, is seeking a results-driven strategic Staff Accountant to work collaboratively with the CFO and Senior Accountant.

Essential Responsibilities: 

The position will handle specific functions of the finance department for the Water Environment Federation (WEF) including, but not limited to:  preparing journal entries and spreadsheets, reconciling and maintaining the accounts receivables and collections, bank and investment reconciliations, fixed assets and capital leases and reconciliations between the general ledger and the membership database.  The position will maintain records of all federal grant activity.  Additionally, the Staff Accountant will work collaboratively with the Senior Accountant to ensure timely and accurate completion of the monthly financial statements.  This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

Knowledge, Skills and Required Experience: 

Qualified candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or finance and a minimum of four (4) years of accounting experience in an automated environment.  A CPA is desirable and experience with Great Plains and AMS is preferred.  Demonstrated expertise in the principles and practices of accounting (GAAP).  Excellent problem solving skills, strategic thinking, demonstrated understanding of the non-profit sector and the ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Marketing Specialist
Alexandria, Va.

The Water Environment Federation (WEF), a non-profit that works to support clean and safe water worldwide, is seeking a Marketing Specialist who contributes to and assists with development and implementation of marketing strategies and promotions for WEF products and services.  H/she will coordinate activities related to the timely execution of marketing plans and projects. 

 This position’s essential function will be to provide support for development and implementation of marketing and sales strategies.   

  • Develops and implements procedures and processes to support marketing and sales activities  
  • Assists with coordination of mechanics for marketing and e-marketing promotional vehicles. 
  • Helps in marketing communication activities, including social media  
  • Assists with the preparation of budgets      

Work is diversified, requiring judgment in defining procedure(s) or regulation(s).  Considerable latitude is given to the job to choose appropriate work methods and procedures. 

Key accountabilities are as follows:  

  • Assigned work is executed to meet timelines.    
  • Promotional lists are selected, managed, de-duped and list selection meets target of promotional piece.   
  • Marketing and sales strategies are executed to meet the needs of business units.    
  • Recommendations for budget items are appropriately researched and developed.    
  • E-marketing activities are appropriately scheduled and executed to meet timelines.  Website marketing information is up to date and accurate.  
  • Social media marketing activities are executed and timely.    
  • Operational aspects of promotions are communicated and coordinated to ensure proper processing.  

 
Qualifications:  
College Degree in Marketing or related area  

  • 2+ years’ related experience; social media experience preferred  
  • Strong communication and customer service skills are essential  
  • Possess ability to pay close attention to detail and manage multiple assignments concurrently  
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Word, Excel, and databases   

Some travel will be required.

What we require:

  • Coursework or experience in marketing, publishing, graphics, and/or library science 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects 
  • Ability to work well unsupervised 
  • High degree of computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office 
  • Database and reporting knowledge a plus! 

Particulars:  

 This is a paid summer internship. You will work a 30-hour work week, Monday through Thursday. WEF pays for parking or metro reimbursement.
