Title: Stormwater Program Director
Company: Water Environment Federation
Job Location: Alexandria, Va.

Summary: The Water Environment Federation (WEF) is seeking a director to manage the organization’s Stormwater initiatives.  This includes coordination with internal WEF groups (volunteer groups) on initiatives, products, and services and coordination with external partners to include representing WEF at conferences, member associations, with government entities, and at other events.  The director also serves as a subject matter expert for WEF on stormwater.

Additional areas of responsibility include providing internal coordination for stormwater education and training, publications, conferences (WEFTEC Stormwater Congress), and public policy.  The director also coordinates activities with WEF Government Affairs staff and represents WEF to federal and other officials and agencies.

Budgeting, staff management, business development, and administrative skills are necessary to manage and oversee the program.  Strong customer service orientation, public speaking, and problem solving skills are necessary to be a successful representative of WEF.

In addition, a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, while an advanced degree is preferred.  Extensive knowledge of the stormwater sector and related issues is needed and environmental policy knowledge is helpful.

Title: Acquisitions/Development Editor
Company: Water Environment Federation
Job Location: Alexandria, Va. 

 

Summary: WEF is seeking an acquisitions/development editor to provide hands-on management of book projects from conception through development.
 

Responsibilities include:   

  • Cultivating/maintaining a network of industry experts, authors and reviewers to support publishing   
  • Soliciting and managing book proposals and approval activities  
  • Negotiating/enforcing contracts and developing/managing schedules and budgets for book projects  
  • Working with authors and reviewers to manage/shape/guide content aspects  
  • Constructing final documents and collaborating with creative/marketing on production and distribution  

 

    Requirements: 

    We are seeking candidates with a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 5 years publishing experience that includes successful book acquisition experience. Job demands exceptional editorial skills; ability to manage multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment; a strong customer service orientation; and excellent verbal/written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Must have strong initiative, be able to work independently, anticipate and troubleshoot problems, and prioritize effectively. Computer literacy with proficiency in Word and websites is required.

    Title: Director, Business Strategies and Development

    Job Location: Alexandria, VA                    

    The Water Environment Federation (WEF) has added this position to formalize business strategy and to take advantage of development opportunities. The director will lead the area of new business growth and will evaluate current business programs and products. Expectations include identification and implementation of new sources of revenue and expanded streams of revenue from current sources; participation in the development of the organization’s business vision and strategy; integration of business strategies with operational plans; analyzing and forecasting costs and benefits of current and projected activities; and understanding of and ensuring effective promotional planning, marketing, and execution. The director will supervise multiple program areas. The preferred candidate will have an MBA or a Master’s in a business field, 10+ years of experience to include success in the private sector, and excellent relationship building skills.
