February 16, 2018 - Michael Quamme, PE blogs about the new Water Palooza Toolkit

The educational event known as Water Palooza started as part of the WEFTEC program in 2013 to further the Student and Young Professionals WEF Community Service Project mission and educate the community about the value of water. To realize this mission, which has evolved to encourage students to become stewards of their water environment, we enlisted numerous companies, organizations, and government agencies from across the country to lead exciting hands on activities ranging from what happens when you flush the toilet to demonstrations on how soil helps filter runoff before reaching our waterways. Since its inception, Water Palooza has engaged 3,100 elementary students with innovative activities that we are pleased to share through the new Water Palooza Toolkit (PDF)—just in time for World Water Day.

The Water Palooza Toolkit, aimed towards students in grades 1-5, has numerous possibilities for use by our WEF Member Associations, members and communities. You can use one or more of the activities in the toolkit for education events you are already hosting like those at water resource recovery facilities,  in schools, or anywhere you can educate your community about the value of water and encourage students to become stewards of their water environment.

For World Water Day on March 22nd, I encourage MAs and WEF members to continue inspiring our next generation of water stewards and treat their local schools to some fun water education activities from the Water Palooza Toolkit!
