Feb. 16, 2018 - Recently, a bipartisan group of House Members lead by Rep. Elizabeth Esty introduced the Rural Infrastructure Development and Partnerships Act (HR 4947) in the House to improve the Federal Government’s coordination with rural communities and help small towns receive aid in planning, designing, building and maintaining infrastructure.

Under this legislation, the US Department of Agriculture would establish a Federal Office of Rural Partnerships which would provide technical assistance to rural communities with infrastructure planning , asset management, life-cycle accounting, and project oversight.  The bill also creates a liaison position which would monitor rural community needs at key agencies.

HR 4947 has been referred to the House Committee on Agriculture.

This bill is the first proposal of the Problem Solvers’ Caucus Rebuilding American’s Infrastructure to be turned into legislation.
