Mar. 9, 2018 - Last week, Rep. Grace Napolitano (D-Calif.) introduced a bill, the Water Recycling Investment and Improvement Act (HR 5127), to assist water agencies with the expansion, planning, designing, and building of water recycling plants and modernizing water infrastructure in California, other western states, and communities across the country.

Among other things, the bill would increase funding for the Bureau of Reclamation’s Title XVI water recycling competitive grant funding from $50 million to $500 million. It would also make the program permanent. HR 5127 also reauthorizes the expired EPA Alternative Water Source Projects Program—making it permanent and providing $375 million in Authorization for the Alternative Water Source program and makes it permanent for water agencies across the country.
