On June 12th, President Trump nominated former House staffer Mary Neumayr to lead the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ). She is currently the highest-ranking official at the CEQ, which coordinates environmental policy and regulations across agencies. Before joining CEQ, she served as deputy chief counsel of energy and environment, senior energy counsel, and counsel for the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and also worked at the Department of Justice and Department of Energy.

"I am pleased that the President has nominated Mary Neumayr to lead the Council on Environmental Quality," Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) said in a statement. "We've worked well together and I appreciate her commitment to protecting the environment while also cutting duplicative and unnecessary regulations. She will play a key role in working with Congress to promote good government reforms as we work towards an infrastructure bill. I congratulate her on her nomination, and look forward to her confirmation."  (E&E, 6/12/18)

Trump’s first nominee, Kathleen Hartnett White, was opposed by Democrats and some Republicans and eventually withdrew her nomination.
