WEF's Resource Recovery Data Collection Survey

WEF has prepared baseline data to establish the current amount of resource recovery at water resource recovery facilities (WRRFs) in the United States and Canada. We asked WRRFs to participate in this data collection effort by filling out a survey regarding their facility's current resource recovery practices. Supporting organizations for this project included the Water Research Foundation (WRF), National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA), and the WateReuse Association.

One of WEF's strategic objectives is to "collaborate with water sector partners to define and create a bold, aspirational, and public call to action to accelerate resource recovery." To help achieve this objective, this baseline data will be used to set strategic resource recovery goals for the U.S. and Canada water sector, specifically for water reuse, nutrient recovery (focusing on nitrogen and phosphorus), and energy recovery. WEF will encourage the adoption of the resource recovery mindset in the water sector by quantifying and publicizing progress towards these goals.

WEF thanks you for taking the time to participate in this data collection effort, and for supporting this important project to promote and accelerate the adoption of resource recovery practices.

If you have any questions, please contact the WEF Water Science & Engineering Center at wsec@wef.org.

The final deadline to submit the survey has passed. If you are interested in looking at the survey, you can still download it below:

Note: We are purposely using a spreadsheet format rather than an online survey to make it easier for utilities to send around the survey internally and have different people fill out different sections of the survey as needed.

Biosolids Resource Recovery

Through biosolids management, solid residue from wastewater treatment is processed to reduce or eliminate pathogens and minimize odors, forming a safe, beneficial agricultural product. Biosolids are carefully monitored and must be used in accordance with regulatory requirements.
