Food, Water, Energy Nexus

Wastewater from industries represents a significant portion of the total wastewater discharged worldwide. Approximately 255,000 mgd of industrial wastewater, treated by chemical, physical, and biological processes, is discharged daily into U.S. waterways. Industries commonly reuse wastewater and process water as water availability becomes scarce, and they are challenged to provide environmentally sustainable wastewater treatment while reducing compliance costs and maintaining value for their businesses.

Industrial Wastewater Community (IWWC)
Comprised of experts in industrial wastewater practices, the IWWC is the resource to many of WEF’s industrial wastewater activities and offerings.

The International Society of Automation (ISA)'s Water and Wastewater Industries Division is concerned with all aspects of instrumentation and automated-control related to commercial and public systems associated with water and wastewater management.

ISA holds an annual Water/Wastewater and Automatic Controls Symposium in collaboration with the Florida AWWA Section, the WEF Automation and Info Tech Committee, the Florida Water Environment Association, and the Instrumentation Testing Association.  The WWAC Symposium helps professionals in the water and wastewater industries understand how instrumentation, SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition), and automatic control applications are vital to the treatment and distribution of water; the collection and treatment of wastewater; and the management of stormwater.
